Maria Telma (Soares) Boldeia

DRACUT Maria Telma (Soares) Boldeia, 80 of Dracut, passed away after a period of declining health she passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Lowell General Hospital. She was the wife of Joseph Edward Boldeia with whom she would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary August 2021.

She was born in Faial, Azores, Portugal on March 23, 1940 and was a daughter of the late Antonio Machado Soares and the late Thelma (Resendes) Soares. She was raised and educated in Portugal before relocating to the United States with her family in September of 1959, settling in Plymouth. She later moved to Dracut in 1968, where she made her home until her passing.

When she first came to the United States, Maria worked at a laundromat in Plymouth with her mother, before working at Hathaway Shirts, before becoming an assembler at Microwave Associates in Lowell. She later worked for Raytheon, where she was the Union Steward, for many years until her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Chelmsford, and St. Therese Church in Dracut

Maria loved plants and gardening, she loved spending time in her greenhouse. She could make anything grow. She also enjoyed raising chickens. Maria loved books, learning, and furthering her education. She was a 3rd order Carmelite, a member of the Holy Ghost Society, an associate of the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa, a member of the prayer group and choir member of the former St. Therese’s Church.

In addition to her husband, Joseph Edward Boldeia of Dracut, she is survived by her beloved daughter, Elaine (Boldeia) Hägg and her husband, John of Chelmsford; her granddaughter, Jessica Hägg of Lowell; and her siblings, Manuel Soares of Kingston, MA and Christine Nix and her husband, Edward Paul of Sacramento, CA. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters in law, Samuel G. Boldeia and his wife, Mary Ann of Londonderry, NH; Mary Lou Sommers and her husband, Kenneth of Fremont, NH, Ricki Roth and her husband, Brian of Nashua, NH; and Marty Boldeia and his wife, Lynn of Merrimack, NH; several nieces and nephews; and her good friends including, Mary Rose Flahive of Tynsgborough, MA.

She was predeceased by her good friends, the late Elnora Ramos and the late Doris Bellerose.

While following social distancing guidelines and wearing a mask, all are welcome to attend her calling hours on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 10a.m. until 12 noon at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, 978-458-6816. Her funeral Mass and burial will take place privately.
