Obituary

Jose Antonio Faria, 83, of Lowell, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021, at Lowell General Hospital after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband to Maria C. (Alves) Faria, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

A son of the late Antonio Filomeno Faria and the late Orlanda Maria (Cabido) Faria, he was born January 17, 1938, in Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, and was raised and educated in Sao Miguel. In May of 1976, he came to the United States, settling in Lowell.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony Church, and loved tending to his garden and grape vines. He enjoyed playing soccer with his team, Club Ideal (Ribeira Grande) and was an ardent supporter of Sporting Club de Portugal. He also enjoyed watching the Boston Bruins, the Boston Red Sox, and the New England Patriots. More than anything though, Jose loved spending time with his family.

In his younger days, Mr. Faria worked at the local store in Sao Miguel and then later worked as a carpenter. When he came to the United States, he worked at Grace Shoe and then for Majilite for many years until his retirement in 1993.

Besides his loving wife, Maria, he is survived by his son, Filomeno Faria of Tewksbury; his daughters, Cidalia Faria of Lowell, Olga Porter and her husband, Gordon Jr., of Lowell, and Owey Pereira and her husband, Antonio, of Lowell; his eight grandchildren, Ryan Faria, Kimberly Faria, Deric Faria, Jordan Porter, Linda Faria, Cameron Pereira, Austin Porter, and Nicolas Pereira; his two great grandchildren, Jayden and Addisyn Murchie; his twin sister, Maria Orlanda Faria of Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel; his brother, Gualberto Faria and his wife, of Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family

He was the brother of the late Lino Faria and the late Ester Medeiros.

While practicing social distancing guidelines and wearing a mask, you are invited to His Visitation 10 until 12 noon on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at the MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. His Funeral Prayers and Burial will take place following the visitation at St. Joseph Cemetery.
