Obituary

Robert G. Werner, 92, of Chester, NH, died Thursday February 25, 2021, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. Bob was born January 21, 1929 in Meriden, CT and was the son of the late Gustave and Lillian (Bercier) Werner. He was raised and educated in Meriden, where he resided prior to relocating to Chester in 1960.

Mr. Werner served in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked as a mechanic most of his life, having worked at Genest Ford, in Manchester, NH and then for many years at Candia Trailers and Snow Equipment Company. Bob was known to many as the “town mechanic” in Chester, doing oil changes and minor auto repairs for many local residents. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and snowmobiling. He was a lifelong gun enthusiast, formerly belonging to the Chester Rod & Gun club and was a longtime member of the Kinnicum Fish & Game Club of Candia.

Members of the family include his two sons, David J. Werner of Manchester, NH and Robert G. Werner, Jr., of Ventura, CA. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 40 years, Karla (Berg) Werner in 2001 and by his son James G. Werner, in 2014.

A walk-through wake will be held Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from 5 to 8pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium 15 Birch Street in Derry, NH. Due to State of NH guidelines, all guests are required to wear masks, minimize contact, and maintain social distancing. A spring burial will be in Great Hill Cemetery of Chester at a later date.
