Obituary

Beverly Ann (duCille) Lovejoy, age 49, passed away peacefully in the loving care of Treasure Coast Hospice, Port St. Lucie, FL, on February 23, 2021 after suffering a stroke, resulting from a decades-long battle with alcohol addiction. She was born January 13, 1972 in New Milford, CT, to the late Ingrid duCille (2013) & Adrian E. duCille Jr. (1991). Bev moved to East Bridgewater, MA with her family in 1974. She attended East Bridgewater schools as well as Southeastern Regional Voc-Tech H.S.

As a young girl on Thatcher St., Bev enjoyed school, played in the woods, rescued stray cats & dogs and was always willing to join in mischief with her siblings & the neighborhood kids. She always loved small children & animals. As a teen, she helped raise her younger sister & brother, served as the “go to babysitter” for family friends, and was so proud of her job at Little Caesar’s on the East Side of Brockton, where she made lifelong friends. Bev was the ultimate fan of Jack Wagner (Frisco Jones on General Hospital). Bev was a kind and beautiful soul who loved with her whole heart and was a natural caretaker. She was also very sensitive, fragile, and easily hurt. Bev had a difficult, painful upbringing, but was always courageous, feisty, and so full of life. She could fix & ride a motorcycle, start your car with a hammer, and knew how to drive a stick at age 13. She said what was on her mind (whether we liked it or not) and made us laugh with her often-wicked sense of humor.

Bev moved to Port St. Lucie, FL in 1995, where she met & married her husband, Michael Paul Lovejoy Sr. in 2001, and realized her dream of being a Mom with a family of her own to love and nurture. She was blessed with a husband and 5 fun awesome kids who loved their Mom’s cooking and would shake the minivan by singing & bouncing in the back seats whenever a good song came on the radio. They were truly Bev’s ultimate “love and joy”.

Despite Bev’s unconditional love for her family and her fierce maternal instincts, she never could love herself enough to take care of “Bev” and conquer the demons resulting from her childhood pain – the largest of which was addiction. She made poor choices, often surrounding herself with the wrong people - people that did not have her best interests and those of her innocent children at heart. Bev’s struggles led her to inflict pain on her family for so many years. We tried in vain to help, to get Bev to help herself, but to no avail. Her addiction culminated in this very sad ending. Bev left us forever, after years of pain - 1 day before the Lovejoys’ 20th wedding anniversary.

Bev is survived by her husband, 5 children: Ashley Nicole Lovejoy & Austin Lee Lovejoy of Jacksonville, NC , Taylor Marie Lovejoy, Michael Paul Lovejoy Jr., and Gary Michael Lovejoy of Port St. Lucie, FL, her grandchildren: Kya Dawn Lovejoy & Kade Michael Lovejoy of Jacksonville, NC, her siblings: Marie (duCille) Coontz of E. Palestine, OH, Doris Stenton, of Brockton, MA, Mark Stenton, of Daytona FL, David duCille, of Tampa, FL, and Adrian M. duCille, of Middleboro, MA, her nieces, Elianna Kayin Coontz, of E. Palestine, OH & Sienna Pearl duCille, of Tampa FL, her nephews, Nicholas Gordon, of South Park, PA, Anthony Stenton, of Kettering OH & Aaron Stenton, of Weymouth MA, her mother in law, Julie Lewis, of Jacksonville, NC, her aunt, Ann duCille, of Providence Rhode Island, and her uncle, Daniel duCille of Middleboro, MA. Bev held a special place in her heart for Mr. V., and her “East Bridgewater Girls”. She also leaves behind many friends in Port. St. Lucie, FL.

In addition to her parents, Bev was predeceased by her brother, John Stenton Jr., her maternal grandparents, Helene (Kiefer) & Otto Mueller, and her paternal grandparents, Pearl (Hogan) & Adrian E. duCille, Sr.

Funeral arrangements are private. In lieu of cards or flowers, the family asks that you please talk to your loved ones about the realities of addiction and consider a donation in Bev’s memory to a behavioral health or substance abuse prevention (i.e., Al-Anon, AA) and/or Hospice organization in your local community.
