Obituary

James W. Huerth, Age 100 of Maplewood passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 25, 2021. Jim is survived by his wife, Marion; children, Karla (James) Stahn, Barbara Knoll, Marc Huerth, and Jamie (James) Wolf; and many grandchildren.

Jim was an honest man with strong convictions and that’s how he lived his life. Being happily married to Marion for over 76 years, he occasionally would joke that when he got married, he didn’t know how many years he was signing up for! Even in the last moments of his life, he needed to be reassured that we would all take good care of Mom. A lovely saying that exemplifies their relationship is: Dad, the greatest lesson I ever learned didn’t come from watching you work hard, play fair, or act responsibly… but from watching you love mom.

Jim wasn’t a man to sit around. He always seemed to be working on a project in the basement. Oftentimes he was being creative with wood, leather, stone, metal, and paints or a combination thereof. He was also skilled at home improvement and repairs; often happily helping family or friends with projects.

He loved to have fun. He built a family cabin at Shell Lake, Wisconsin and spent many wonderful summers there with family and friends. He went fishing and hunting well into his early 90’s. He also enjoyed golfing, dancing and playing cards. During quiet times, he would pick up his harmonica and play a few tunes. As an avid reader, he especially liked reading about Native Americans; a part of his heritage of which he was proud.
