Obituary

Rita E. (Olson) Butler, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 85 years of age.

Rita was born in Malden on January 10, 1936, a daughter of the late George Olson and Marie (Smith) Olson. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Rita worked as a Secretary at Schraffts Candy Company in Charlestown for many years prior to its closing. She was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association. She enjoyed watching classic movies, listening to country music and always enjoyed a night out with her beloved husband to go dancing. She was also an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed watching the Patriots and Bruins. Family was paramount in Rita's life and she cherished the quality moments shared with her husband and children and took great pride in the accomplishments each one of her grandchildren has achieved and also cherished her time spent with her 2 sisters and their husbands.

Rita is the beloved wife of the late Warren F. Butler. She is the devoted mother of Carol Ahern, Stephen Butler and his wife Diane and the late Warren G. Butler. She is the loving Nana Rita to Stephen, Kaitlyn, Mikayla, Kerriann, Shannon and her great-granddaughter Lilah. She is the beloved sister of Marie Gill and her husband Andrew and the late Barbara Shannon and her husband Thomas. She is the sister-in-law of Gerard and Mary Butler and the late Walter Butler and his surviving wife Patricia. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rita's Funeral on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. (FACIAL COVERINGS ARE REQUIRED INSIDE CHURCH AND FUNERAL HOME.) Her burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Her visiting hours will be on Friday, February 26, 2021 from 4 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
