Belmont-Erly Hilda (Havn) Baker, 61, of 9 High Street died Monday evening, March 20, 2006 at her home surrounded by her family after a spirited crusade with cancer.
Born in Eikefjord, Norway on August 3, 1944 she was the daughter of the late Erik S. and Annie (Agledal) Havn. Erly was raised and schooled in Eikefjord, Norway. She had been a resident of Belmont for the past 40 years coming from Iceland.
Erly was the co-owner of The Yarn Shop & Fibres on Main Street in Laconia for 20 years.
Erly was a member of the Thursday night knitting group.
Erly enjoyed and excelled in knitting, needlepoint, quilting, yarn spinning, and crocheting. She cherished her time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
A sister-in-law, Judith A. Maheu in 2005, predeceased Erly.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, John “Jack” N. Baker of Belmont, three sons, Andy E. Baker of Bothell, WA, Hans M. Baker and his wife Betsy J. of Contoocook, NH, and Erik S. Baker and his wife Rachel C. of Canterbury, NH, two brothers, Albert Hamn and Arne Havn both of Eikefjord, Norway, two sisters, Oline Endestad of Eikefjord, Norway, and Betsy Hellebust of Nordfjordeid, Norway, two grandchildren, Patrick A. and Annie G. Baker of Canterbury, NH, a sister-in-law, Jeri-Lou Poirrier and her husband Roger W. “Pete” of Laconia, and a brother-in-law Roland L. Maheu of Laconia.
A Memorial Reception was held Sunday, April 2, 2006 at the Simoneau-Paquette Memorial Home, 139 Church Street, Laconia from 4-6 pm. Family and friends were invited to attend. A Graveside Service was held Wednesday May 24th, 2006 at 11:30 am in the family lot by the pond at Union Cemetery, Academy Street, Laconia.
