Obituary

Spencer – Wilfredo Rivera, 69, of Spencer died on Saturday, February 13, 2021 in Saint Vincent Hospital, with family by his side, after an extended illness.

Wilfredo is survived by his wife of 32 years, Barbara J. (Handy) Rivera; three daughters, Naomi (Rivera) Albano of Spencer, Marlene Rivera of Southbridge and Melitza Rivera of Worcester; a stepdaughter, Victoria Hernandez of Southbridge; a stepson, James Ohop of Southbridge; a close friend, Neftali Sanchez; three sisters, Aleida Aponte of Kissimmee, Florida, Nery Rivera and Annie Rivera, both of Manati, Puerto Rico; 19 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Mr. Rivera was born in Manati, Puerto Rico, son of the late Lolo Rivera and Juanita Machado and is also predeceased by a daughter, Jacqueline Rivera and a brother, Eddie Rivera.

Wilfredo started working for Hyde’s Manufacturing in Southbridge and then entered the painting industry with T.P. Morin Painter’s. He later decided to start his own business and for many years he worked throughout Worcester County as an independent painter.

Mr. Rivera was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing pool in various leagues. He was the happiest when he was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Private funeral services are being handled by Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester. Memorial contributions in memory of Wilfredo may be made to the American Lung Association, National Direct Response Headquarters PO Box 756 Osceola, WI 54020.
