Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Virginia F. “Jean” (Connell) Wynne, 98, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Friday, February 12, 2021. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the care and love of her family. She was born in Springfield, the oldest of four children to the late Daniel W. “Bill” Connell and Mary A. (Tracy) Connell. She attended Springfield Public Schools, graduated from the High School of Commerce and was a Supervisor for the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company until 1949 when she married the love of her life; James F. Wynne. Jim and Jean celebrated 49 happy years of marriage before his passing on May 27, 1999. Together they raised five children of which she was their rock, their wisdom, their laughter, and their love. She was truly the last of the "Greatest Generation". Jean touched and influenced so many lives and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She was a communicant of Mary, Mother of Hope Church in East Springfield and was a member of the Our Lady of Hope Women's Guild, the Catholic Women's Club and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. She leaves her four devoted children, Mary-Jean Kagan and her husband, John, of Chicopee, James F. Wynne, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, William J. Wynne and Julie A. Wynne who lived with her the past several years, all of Springfield; her eleven wonderful grandchildren who will sorely miss their grandmother, Attorney Claudette-Jean Girard, Noelle Jueckstock and her partner, Bryan Lamont, Michael Kagan and his wife, Teresa, Jim Foley and his wife, Nicole, Stephanie Osborne and her husband, Tim, Daniel Wynne and his wife, Cait, William Wynne, Jr., Kevin Wynne, James Wynne, Connor Wynne, and Brianna Bailey; her six cherished great grandchildren, Kailah, Lydia, Benjamin, Logan, Gabrielle, and Paxton; her dear sister-in-law, Alice Wynne of Springfield; and her numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and extended family members and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving daughter, Christine F. Wynne who was Called Home on March 8, 2006; her dear brother, Daniel Connell and his wife, Martha; and her two dear sisters, Barbara Connell and Marian Zimmerman and her husband, Joseph. Her Funeral will be held on Monday, February 22, 2021 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home for a WALK-THRU Visitation on Sunday, February 21, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and funeral home, church and cemetery attendance are limited due to state regulations.
