Obituary

New Bedford – On the early morning of February 11, 2021, my son, Matthew Moniz lost his three-year battle with Ewing Sarcoma, at the young age of thirty-six. As difficult as this battle was, Matthew’s outlook on life grew overwhelmingly more positive during this time. In many ways, these last few years have given him the chance to truly live.

The memories our family has created in these years are one of a kind. Most notably, Matthew’s wish for a family trip to Walt Disney World came true, and this trip will continue to live in our family’s hearts forever.

It’s a known fact that every man is imperfect, but this isn’t so in a mother’s heart. Cancer may have taken Matthew’s life away, but I will forever be grateful for the blessings we have received during these final years. I thank the Lord that my son had the opportunity to live his life to the fullest, and that I was able to experience that with him.

I have also been blessed with the comfort of knowing that my son has established a firm relationship with the Lord during these last years. I have sincere confidence and faith that God, Our Father, has saved my son and is providing him the gift of a joyous eternal life with Him.

As instant as life begins, as instant it shall end, and I will be eternally grateful for Matthew and all of the life he brought to our family. I can say proudly that my son, Matthew Moniz, granted me the most beautiful gifts in life, and he will truly be missed.

Matthew is survived by his mother, Eulalia Moniz; wife, Lindsey Cosgrove Moniz; two sons, Jaiden Moniz and Braiden Moniz; brothers and sisters, Mary-Louise Moniz, Rosemary Raposo, Lolly Fernandes and her husband Rodney Fernandes, Suzanne Labbe, Tony Moniz and Christine Moniz; aunts, Angelina Machado and Ruth Machado; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Matthew was predeceased by his father, the late Antonio Moniz and his brother, the late Manny Moniz.

In lieu of flowers, donations can kindly be made in Matthew’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
