Obituary

CHICOPEE – Yvon L. Dion, 76, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Drummondville, Province of Quebec, Canada on April 23, 1944, the beloved son of the late Raoul and Anita (Hardy) Dion. He was raised in Drummondville and settled in Holyoke in 1955. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard attaining the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. He was employed for 25 years in the Maintenance Department at UMASS Amherst. He was a member of the Union No. 1 Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen and previously was employed with Piquette and Stebbins Bricklayers. He was a Past President of the Holyoke Beagle Club in Westhampton and coached for the Chicopee Hockey Association. He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Holyoke. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. Yvon spent many hours playing cards with his family and many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Agnes C. (Caron) Dion. They were married at the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Holyoke on November 28, 1964 and were blessed with over 56 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two devoted sons, Mark A. Dion and his wife, Lyn, and Robert C. Dion and his wife, Kimberly, all of Chicopee; his three cherished grandchildren, Courtney Mendez and her husband, Jose, Ashley Dion and her partner, Kevin, and Kyle Dion; his two cherished great grandsons, Liam and Cameron; his three dear brothers, Andre Dion and his wife, Juliette, Pierre Dion and his wife, Gail, and Rene Dion and his wife, Ginnette; his four dear sisters, Janine Pepin and her husband, Robert, Hugette Cheney, Pauline Champagne and her husband, Lucien, and Nicole Laliberte and her husband, Emile; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his four dear brothers, Roger, Gilles, Claude and Denis; and his five dear sisters, Marcelle, Gisele, Pierrette, Denise and Michelle. His family and friends are invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. There are no visiting hours. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
