Obituary

Anthony E. ‘Tony’ Mendonca, Jr., 40 of Billerica, passed away with his family by his side on Monday, February 8, 2021 after a 5 year courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Lowell on March 10, 1980 and was a son of Anthony E. Mendonca, Sr. of Methuen and Pensri (Sangthong) Mendonca of Billerica. He was raised in the Belvidere neighborhood of Lowell, where he attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School before graduating from Lowell High School with the Class of 1998.

In his younger days, Tony played Pop Warner Football in Lowell and Dracut, as well as Shedd Park Baseball and football at Lowell High School. More recently he enjoyed playing pool, which was his favorite hobby. He was a nationally recognized competitive pool player, placing as high as 3rd place in National Tournaments which he enjoyed participating in for years. Tony was a member of the American Pool Association, Club Passe Temps, and the Pawtucketville Social Club.

Tony was affectionately known as ‘Tony Tone’ by the many that loved and adored him. He worked as a bartender at the Club Passe Temps and the Pawtucketville Social Club. He was an amazing pool player, baseball, and softball player as he was involved in adult leagues for many years after graduating high school .

Tony was also well known for his love of music, concerts, and the sunshine. He always loved the beach and dreamed of leaving the winters behind and living on the beach one day. He was well known for his humble demeanor, strength, sarcasm, tenacity, love for life and the positivity and inspiration he gave to many that crossed his path.

Tony leaves behind many special people and lifelong friends especially those from “The Crew” his “Gusto Family”, and friends from the French Club and PSC.

In addition to his father, Anthony E. Mendonca, Sr. and his wife, Nancy of Methuen; and his mother, Pensri Mendonca and her companion, Frank O’Hara of Billerica, MA; he is also survived by his sister, Judy A. Mendonca and her companion, Carlos Maldonado of Billerica; a sister Nicole and Jamie Jones of Lowell, MA; a brother, Leonard Kolosha and his fiancé Morgan Lambert of Derry, NH, his niece, Katrina Maldonado of Georgia; and nephews Liam and Lucas Jones of Lowell. He is also survived by a special young man whom he helped to raise, Devin Costa of North Truro, MA.; and his close friends, Kelli Costa of North Truro, MA, Jessica (Laffey) Michaud of Lowell, MA, Brie Gallant of Dracut, MA as well as the countless other friends that were dear to his heart.

Tony was the grandson of the late Manuel and the late Maria Mendonca; godson of the late Albert and the late Maria Silva; and nephew of the late John Mendonca. Tony’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston for their kindness and compassion during his battle with cancer.
