Barbara M. (Barrasso) Scopa, age 76, of Medford passed away on Sunday, February 7th, at Melrose/Wakefield Hospital. A lifelong Medford resident, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Carmela (DiMinico) Barrasso. Barbara served as a traffic supervisor and worked for many years in the lunch program for the Medford public school system. She was devoted to her church where she will be remembered as the “Paper Girl.”
Barbara was the beloved wife of Ralph Scopa, and the devoted mother of Anthony Scopa and his wife Kathy of Nashua, New Hampshire, and Denise Scopa of Medford. She was the loving grandmother of Kaitlyn and Nicholas Scopa, and the loving great grandmother of Saphira Julia. Barbara was the dear sister of the late Carmen Barrasso and his late wife LaVern, and Geraldine (Barrasso) Taranti and her late husband Joseph. She was the cherished aunt of Stephanie and her husband Mathew, Joseph and his wife Nicole, Danielle, Gina, Richard, Michelle, Rhonda, Robert and his wife Nicole, Peter, and the late Gina. She is also survived by many loving friends and relatives.
A funeral will be held in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Friday, February 12th at 6:30 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with family from 4 through 6:30 PM. Social distancing protocols will be observed throughout the services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Barbara’s name to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
