Mary J. (Ricci) Zarella, a longtime resident of Medford and beloved wife of the late Lawrence J. Zarella, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, February 6, 2021 with her family at her side. She was 95 years old.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the beloved daughter of the late Francesco and Angelina (Colantuono) Ricci. Mary was a communicant of St. Francis of Assissi Church in Medford. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, bingo, scrabble and crossword puzzles. Above all, she was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
Mary was predeceased by her son Lawrence J. Zarella Jr. and is survived by her loving children; Karen A. Petrocelli of Stoneham and Joseph A. and his wife Lisa M. Zarella of Peabody; grandchildren; Vincent, Nicole, Christina, Tara, Thomas and Kristen, great-grandchildren; Nicholas, Ryan, Danielle, Marissa, Ava, Gianna, Joseph and Luke and many nieces and nephews. Mary was also the sister of Jennie Cassano of Stoughton and the late Albert, James, Alfred and John Ricci and Elena Oppedisano. The family also extends their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff of Glen Ridge Nursing Home where Mary resided for the past 16 years.
Funeral services will be privately held. A gathering to celebrate Mary's life will be held at a later date and donations in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
