Earl Patrick “Pat” Sands

DRACUT - Earl Patrick “Pat” Sands, age 78, a veteran and a well known area painting
contractor, died Sunday morning, Mar. 19, at Lowell General Hospital, following an extended
illness. He was the husband of Claire A. (Butler) Sands, with whom he would have celebrated a
43rd wedding anniversary on April 20th.
He was born in South Boston, on October 22, 1927, a son of the late Earl R. and Ella (Hogan)
Sands. He lived the greater part of his life in Tewksbury, until retiring to Dracut nine years ago.
In the years between WWII and the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army’s European
Occupation Force.
He, along with his late brother Thomas “Bummy” Sands, owned and operated a painting contract service for
more than 45 years that served the Merrimack Valley.
He was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church in Dracut, and a former member of St. William’s
Church in Tewksbury.
He was a member of the Longmeadow Golf Club in Lowell, was a former
member of the Tewksbury Lions Club, and in earlier years was a member of the Tewksbury
Veterans Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Maura Tucker of Walkersville, MD; three sons and
daughters-in-law, Patrick Sands and his wife Linda (Lucas) of Tyngsboro, Jeffrey Sands and his
wife Nancy (Wythe) of Tewksbury, Christopher Sands and his wife Theresa (Kozlowski) of
Derry, NH; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, Stephanie, and Nicholas Tucker, Kaleigh, and Patrick
J. Sands, Kara and Erin Sands, and Noah Sands; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn “Mandy”
Quinn and her husband James of Tewksbury; a sister-in-law Joan Sands of Derry, NH; and many
nieces and nephews.
He was also brother of the late Thomas “Bummy” Sands, and Harry Sands.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, Mar. 23, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Burial with Army Honors was in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to R.A.R.A., 295 High St., Lowell, MA 01852, will be
appreciated.
