Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - David E. Goggin, 91, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at Heritage Hall West in Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on July 2, 1929, the beloved son of the late David A. and Marguerite (Comer) Goggin. He was raised in Springfield, graduated from Springfield Technical High School in 1946 and had lived in Springfield his entire life. He served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and attained the rank of Corporal. He received the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member and Past Pension Trustee of the Plumber's Local 104 in Springfield and had worked for over 30 years as a Master Plumber for the City of Springfield. He also was an instructor in the Plumber's Apprentice Program at Putnam Vocational High School in Springfield and Springfield Technical Community College. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and a Stewardship Collector. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed traveling, hunting and competitive skeet shooting and was proud to have won an automobile at a tournament in Texas. Above all, he loved spending time with his family whom he often referred to as his “Treasures”. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Joan D. (Donovan) Goggin. They were married on September 26, 1953 at the former Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 67 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving children, Joanne M. Taylor and her partner, Paul Pirnie, David J. Goggin and his wife, Margie Nicklaw Goggin, and Patricia M. Twining and her husband, Jeffrey, all of Feeding Hills; his seven cherished grandchildren, Matthew Taylor and his wife, Kelsey, Victoria Sheehan and her husband, Patrick, Joshua Goggin and his companion, Kerry DeForge, Zachary Goggin and his companion, Casandra Campion, Andrew Wynne, Marissa Slavik and her husband, Kyle, and Laura Wynne; his four cherished great-grandchildren, Rory and Madelyn Taylor, Parker Sheehan and Sophia Slavik; his dear brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John J. Donovan and his wife, Barbara, of West Springfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear sister and brother-in-law, Marguerite Allen and her husband, Phillip. His Funeral will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. His Committal Service with United States Marine Corps Military Honors will be private for his family at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. His family will receive friends at the funeral home for a WALK-THRU Visitation on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and funeral home and church capacity are limited due to state regulations.
