Obituary

PRAUGHT, Allan age 83, of Dedham, MA, January 30, 2021. Allan passed away peacefully at his home in Dedham after a brief illness with cancer.

Born March 28, 1937 in Boston to Mary (Fitzpatrick) and Joseph W. Praught, Allan was a 1954 graduate of St. Sebastian’s School, a 1958 graduate of Notre Dame University, and a graduate of Suffolk Law School. After passing the bar, he worked tirelessly as a Probate and Estate attorney.

Allan will be remembered for his kindness, wit, humility, and generosity. He strolled nightly enjoying his evening cigar with neighbors. He met monthly with his long-time childhood friends and he enjoyed his frequent driving trips to Notre Dame for football games. He loved the ocean and gardening, and being with friends and family. He will always be remembered as good humored and a special true friend.

He was past president of the Notre Dame Club of Boston, past president of the Retired Men’s Club, served with the St. Vincent De Paul Society and the Knights of Columbus, was an active volunteer with the St. Mary’s Church of Dedham, Meals on Wheels, and with the Dedham Food Pantry.

Allan is survived by his loving wife Priscilla (Boettcher) Praught and her children Mark, Kurt, Eric, Karl, Edward, and Neil Boettcher, and Lisa Smith. His nieces and nephews include Stephen, Ann, Martha, Mary, Ellen, and Norman Jr., and the late Joseph Praught. He is survived by his brother Norman Praught Sr., of Dedham. His brother Joseph and his sisters Eleanor, Patricia, Louise, and Priscilla predeceased him as did his wife Eleanor (McCourt).

A visitation will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham, Saturday, Feb. 6 from 9:00-10:45am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Dedham at 11:00am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Please follow all Covid-19 guidelines. Interment private. Remembrances may be made to a charity of choice.
