STANLEY C. SHAW, SR., age 88, a Hingham resident since 1952, died on Friday, March 17th at Harbor House Nursing Center in Hingham after a long illness. Mr. Shaw was born in Beverly, MA and was raised and educated in West Roxbury. He graduated from Boston Mechanic Arts High School and in 1939 graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Economics. In 1941 he received his Master's Degree in Economics at Tufts University and was in the process of achieving his Doctorate in Ecomonics at Harvard University when he was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1943. He served in the Navy during World War II until 1946. Mr. Shaw then was then employed by Ernst & Ernst in Boston as an auditor until going with the Boston office of Blue Cross & Blue Shield, retiring in 1980 as Vice President.
Mr. Shaw was active in Hingham affairs including service on the Advisory Board, the Capital Outlay Committee, volunteering at the Hingham Public Library and was associated with the Hingham Chapter of the Civil Air Command. Along with his son, Stanley C. Shaw, Jr. he was involved with 'Studio 15' in Rockland, a rehearsal studio for local musicians, serving as its office manager. In addition, he was a member of the Frank Palmer Spear Society of Northeastern University and was active with the Harvard Learning and Retirement Insitute.
Always interested in education, for many years Mr. Shaw tutored international students at Harvard.
Husband of the late Roberta E. (Stone) Shaw, he leaves his two daughters; Linda (Shaw) McIntosh of Natick and Nancy (Shaw) Dow of Hingham; his son, Stanley C. Shaw, Jr. of Carver, 7 grandchildren and one great grandson.
A Funeral Service will be conducted on Tuesday, March 21st at 1 PM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham.
Friends may visit at the Downing Chapel on Monday from 4-7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the New England Wildlife Center, 19 Fort Hill St., Hingham, MA 02043.
The interment is to be private.
