Juana (Maldonado) Cruz, age 77, passed away on Jan. 26, 2021. She was born on Feb. 17, 1943 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, a daughter of the late Atanacio Maldonado and Emelia Velazquez. Juana loved music and she loved to cook. She was known as a “Master of Dominoes”. She enjoyed puzzles, word searches and was an avid gardener, but above all, she mostly enjoyed spending time with her beloved family. She is survived by her loving companion of 37 years, Santos Romero of Chicopee; one son, Miguel A. Cruz and his wife Nancy of Springfield; four daughters, Sonia D. Cruz-Rivera and her husband Reinaldo Rivera Jr of Springfield, Ermelinda Cruz of Springfield, Norma I. Cruz of Springfield, Evelyn Cruz-Cabrera and her husband Rolando of Chicopee; 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son Juan “Polaco” Cruz and also by her sister Ana Velazquez. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. Burial will be private at a later date.
