Obituary



Sharon Anne Gray of Colonial Heights Virginia, died peacefully at home on January 19th, after a long illness. She was the wife of Haywood W. Gray, Jr.

Born in Provincetown, the daughter of Sherman and Avis [Burden] Russell, she attended Provincetown High School. After high school, she worked at the Crown and Anchor.

On July 4, 1963, she met the love of her life, Haywood Gray, who was stationed at the North Truro Air Force Base. He was reassigned to the DEW line in Alaska, but their courtship continued. When he was re-assigned to Maguire AFB, NJ in 1965, he came back to Provincetown to marry his sweetheart.

Upon his retirement, after 20 years in the Air Force, they settled in Virginia. Besides being a homemaker, she enjoyed exercise, motorcycle touring and travel. She and Haywood took 27 cruises together.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Gary Gray also of Colonial Heights VA, a brother Dwight ‘Fuzzy’ Russell of North Truro, a niece, Dawn Schnitzer of Eastham and a nephew, Lee Russell of Truro.
