Obituary

Philip A. Lawton 86, of Milford, passed away Monday Jan. 25, 2021 at Milford Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Joan B. (Usher) Lawton.

Born March 20, 1934 in Franklin, a son of the late Paul O. and Pauline B. (Sauve) Lawton, he was a former resident of Franklin until moving to Milford over 30 years ago.

He was raised and educated in Franklin and was a graduate of Franklin High School.

Following his graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in March of 1952. He served during the Korean War and attainted the rank of Corporal. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Navy Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1955.

Upon returning home, he was a meat cutter for Stop & Shop in Franklin. He then went to work for Kendall Mills in Walpole and then for Textron, Inc. until retiring.

Philip enjoyed deep sea fishing, watching the New England Patriots and dancing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his siblings, Priscilla T. Cornetta of Franklin, Phyllisann Young of Honolulu, Hawaii, his stepchildren, Kim Leighton of Milford, Jeff Leighton of Milford, 11 nieces & 8 nephews.

He was the brother of the late Peter Lawton, Paul E. Lawton, Patricia A. Lawton and Pauline J. Schafer.

Due to Covid-19, a graveside service followed by military honors and burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin will be held privately at a later date.
