Obituary

James P. “Pat” Hodnett, Sr., 76, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.

Graveside services will be held 4 PM, Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Ocilla Cemetery, in Ocilla, Georgia, with the Rev. Jay Roberson officiating. While there will be no formal visitation, the body will lie in state for friends to view on Saturday, January 23, 2021 from 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Hodnett was born October 27, 1944, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late John R. & Ethel Grantham Hodnett. He lived in the community all of his life and was a 1963 graduate of Irwin County High School and graduated from Georgia Southwestern Technical School. Mr. Hodnett served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, being stationed in Korea. He was employed by the City of Ocilla for 40 years serving as Superintendent of Utilities and Special Projects Manager. He was a lifetime member of Georgia Water & Pollution Control Association and a member of Georgia Rural Water as well as the Water Environment Association. Mr. Hodnett was a member of the Ocilla United Methodist Church, serving on several committees and was a Boy Scout leader for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy Hodnett of Ocilla; two sons: James P. Hodnett, Jr. & Carol of Milledgeville and Christopher R. Hodnett & Dee of Ocilla; six grandchildren: Marae Hodnett, Patrick Hodnett, Caroline Hodnett, Riley Hodnett, Brandon Shrewsbury and Hannah Shrewsbury; and a brother, Carl Hodnett & Sybil of Griffin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Wesley Hodnett.
