Obituary

Rita Green Brooks, 72, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Tift Regional Medical Center. A private family funeral service will be held for Mrs. Brooks at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2021, at Ty Ty First Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Owens officiating. The service will be livestreamed on Friday, January 22, 2021, at Facebook.com/Ty Ty First Baptist beginning at 2:45 p.m. Friends are welcome to attend a graveside funeral service at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. Social distancing and other COVID-19 guidelines will be observed at the graveside.

Mrs. Brooks’ son, Michael Brooks; son-in-law, Tye Cottle; grandsons, Reid Cottle and John Michael Brooks; nephews, Chad Brooks and Eric Brooks; and Henry Rowling, husband of granddaughter, Brooke Cottle Rowling, will serve as pallbearers.

Born January 31, 1948 in Fort Oglethorpe, Mrs. Brooks was the daughter of the late William Green and Willie B. Alexander Green. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Teddy Green and one sister, Rhonda Green. Before retiring, she was the Human Resources Manager at Kelley Manufacturing Company in Tifton for 32 years and served on the Board of Directors. She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Tifton for 41 years, where she was a Sunday School teacher and active in the Women’s Ministry. She was currently a member of Ty Ty First Baptist Church, where she was active in the Women’s Ministry. She was an avid gardener and loved taking care of her grandchildren and attended all of their activities. She was known for her compassion for other people and she was a dedicated prayer warrior.

Mrs. Brooks is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lamar Brooks of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Amy Brooks of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Tye Cottle of Tifton; one brother and his wife, Jimmy and Marie Green of Ringgold; a sister-in-law, Alma Green of Arab, Alabama; one sister, Ramona Bryan of Ringgold; and four grandchildren, Brooke Cottle Rowling and her husband Henry, Reid Cottle, John Michael Brooks and Julie Ann Brooks.
