Gilda (Mello) Lynch, age 86, of Norton, passed away on Monday, Monday, January 18, 2021 at the Holiday Retirement Center in Manville, RI. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick G. Lynch, who died on November 19, 1984.
Born in Taunton, MA on February 6, 1934, she was a loving daughter of the late Manuel F. and Angelina (Costa) Mello.
Gilda grew up in Taunton and was a graduate of Taunton High School. She had made her home in Norton for over fifty-five years.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Lynch had worked for twenty-five years as a secretary in the Guidance Office in the Norton Public School System. When younger, she was employed at Swank Manufacturing in Attleboro.
A communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton, Gilda loved spending time in the presence of her cherished family and traveling with friends.
She is survived by her devoted daughters: Susan A. Lynch and her significant other Danielle Jacks of Cranston, RI and Cheryl A. Lloyd and her husband Justin of Cumberland, RI. She was the adoring grandmother of Melissa, Julie, Joshua, Brandon, Madison and the great grandmother of Summer and Collin. She was the dear sister of Edward “Blondie” Mello of Melbourne, FL, Ernest Mello of Taunton, Manuel Mello of Raynham and the late Edwin Mello, Lorraine Machado and Herbert Mello. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, January 22nd from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 23rd at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power Street, Norton. Burial will follow at Saint Francis Cemetery in Taunton.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gilda’s memory may be made to the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 89 South St., Boston, MA 02111.
