Obituary

Jordon L. Pecile, age 90, died Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 1, 1931 in Hazleton, PA the son of Gildo and Anna (Pisani) Pecile.

Jordon was a graduate of Hazleton High School class of 1948. He briefly attended the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, and went on to earn his A.B. degree from Cornell University and a master’s degree from University of Iowa. Jordon was also awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for study at the University of Florence, Italy.

Jordon’s professional career was no less remarkable. Before embarking on a teaching career, he was commissioned an officer in the United States Navy, where his service took him on missions to Antarctica, the Mediterranean, the Far East and the South Pacific. Jordon then became committed to the academic life as a teacher of writing at several distinguished institutions of higher learning. He was an officer-instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy; a Fellow of comparative literature at Princeton University; an assistant professor at the University of Iowa; a Fulbright lecturer at University d’Aix-Marseilles, France; assistant professor at Mount Holyoke College; and associate professor at Trinity College. Jordon retired from academia as professor at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He achieved numerous literary accomplishments including the publication of short stories, book reviews and programming for public television.

Uncle Jordon enjoyed reading, creative writing, intellectual discussion, fine dining and travel.

Jordon was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew, and by his sister, Celeste. He is survived by his nieces and nephews Wally Erhardt Voeks, Gilda Ann Voeks, Geneva Marie Voeks, Roy Akoni Voeks, Giordano (Gino) Andrew Voeks, Richard Pecile, Jordan Pecile, Robert Pecile and Lori Ann (Pecile) Opiary.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Jordon’s caregivers at StoneRidge Avalon Health Center and Cottage at Avalon.

All services will be private at the request of the family
