Obituary

GRANBY – M. Cecile (Roy) Lajoie, 91, of Granby, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, January 14, 2021. She passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on January 19, 1929, a beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Alphonsine Roy. She was raised on Sullivan Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee and was the last remaining matriarch of the Roy family. She lived in Aldenville until moving to Granby in 1953 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was employed as a billing clerk and cashier at Holyoke Hospital. She was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (IHMC) in Granby where she also was a member of the IHMC Men’s & Women’s Club. She was a member of the Granby American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, Red Hat Ladies, Granby Preservation Society, and Granby Historical Association. During her leisure time, Cecile was known to be inquisitive, an avid reader of magazines and newspapers, enjoyed sewing, quilting, collecting cookbooks, enjoyed traveling, and going to eat at local area restaurants. Being of French-Canadian descent, Cecile enjoyed speaking in French with anyone nearby speaking French. Most of all, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She leaves her beloved husband and soul mate, Joseph M. Lajoie. They were married on June 27, 1953 in the Saint Joan of Arc Chapel in Aldenville and were blessed with over 67 years of happiness together. In addition to her husband, she leaves her three loving children, Michael “Mike” Lajoie and his wife, Karen, of Chicopee, Teresa “Terry” Lajoie of Granby and James “Jim” Lajoie and his wife, Missy, of South Hadley; her nine cherished grandchildren, Amy Lajoie, Adam Lajoie and his companion, Courtney Davis, Alyssa Lajoie and her companion, Charlie Edgette, Joseph Lajoie and his wife, Jineane, Corey Lajoie and his wife, Lydia, Heather Bailly and her husband, Jon, Katelynn Lajoie, Matthew Lajoie and Nicholas Lajoie; her seven cherished great-grandchildren, Morgan Lajoie, Ryder Lajoie, Kylie Lajoie, Lorna Lajoie, Collin Lajoie, Madison Bailly and Emma Bailly; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Lajoie and Roy families. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her five dear siblings, Maurice “Moo” Roy, Ronald “Joe” Roy and his wife, Luisa, Jeanine Woolsey and her husband, Robert, Helen Balthazard and Aline Fontaine and her husband, Gerald “Jim”; and her three dear sisters-in-law, Rita Dugre and her husband, George, Cecile Lindsay and her husband, Janvier, and Theresa Lajoie. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 256 State Street, Granby, MA 01033. Please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and Church capacity if limited due to state regulations. Her burial will be private.
