Obituary

WEBSTER – Josephine A. (Salveggio) Maheu LaRiviere, 91, died Wednesday, January 13, 2021 in Brookside Rehabilitation & Nursing Center after an illness. Her first husband, Philip J. Maheu, Sr. died in 1957. Her second husband of 25 years, Ernest “Larry” LaRiviere, died in 1991.

She leaves 2 children, Carol A. Leboeuf and her husband Ronald, and Susan M. Curtis, all of Webster; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, John Salveggio of Brooklyn, CT and Richard Salveggio of Florida; 2 sisters, Mary Jarvis of Lebanon, CT and Jeanne Ruta of Preston, CT; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sons Philip J. Maheu, Jr. and Mark A. Maheu, by her brother Frank Salveggio and by her sister Anna DiNalfo.

She was born on November 26, 1929 in Willimantic, CT, the oldest of the 7 children of Frank and Adele (Nowakowski) Salveggio and grew up there. She had lived in several towns in Connecticut before moving to Webster in 2015.
Mrs. LaRiviere was a cashier at “Better Valu” Supermarket in Lisbon, CT for 35 years, retiring in 1998.

She liked to crochet, work with ceramics, play cards and dance the polka.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Brookside Rehab for their care and love of Josephine.

A graveside service will be held in Pachaug Cemetery in Griswold, CT at the convenience of the family. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours. Donations in her name may be made to Ascend Hospice, 100 Locke Dr, Marlborough, MA 01752. Arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster.
