Obituary

Robert Pilkinton, 84, of Tifton passed away on January 12, 2021 at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia. A graveside service will be held for Mr. Pilkinton at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Tift Memorial Gardens, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe and the Rev. Nick Bennett will officiate.

Robert was born on May 6, 1936 in Omega to the late Mr. Bradley M. Pilkinton and Mrs. Ressie Ethel Hancock Pilkinton. Mr. Pilkinton was also preceded in death by his sister, Billie Rose Pilkinton and his brother, Bradley Jr. Pilkinton. Mr. Pilkinton graduated from Omega High School in 1954.

Mr. Pilkinton was employed with the Department of Transportation and he retired as a District Materials Engineer after 43 years of service. Robert also retired from the Georgia National Guard after serving 27 years. Robert also retired from Kmart after working for 20 years. After retirement, Robert and Carolyn enjoyed several years of fishing with their grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors and gardening in his yard. He loved sitting on the porch in his swing. He built his workshop in his backyard. He also built cabinets for their home as one of his enjoyments of hobbies. Mr. Pilkinton was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Tifton and enjoyed so much serving as an usher to serve the Lord at his church.

Robert is survived by his wife, Carolyn Bennett Pilkinton; a daughter, Lisa and son-in-law, Dane Green; a son, Clay Pilkinton and a daughter-in-law, Jenny Pilkinton. Robert loved Dane, his son-in-law, very much and respected him as a son-in-law, for his loving and caring ways. Also, Robert loved Jenny very much, his daughter-in-law, for her loving and caring ways and being a wonderful wife to his son, Clay.

Also surviving Mr. Pilkinton are his seven grandchildren, Chase Green of Ty Ty and his wife Renee, Mitchell Green of Woodstock, Todd Green of Omega, Hunter Pilkinton, Drew Pilkinton, Alexis Pilkinton, and Aiden Pilkinton, all of Tifton; and a great-grandson, Owen Green, son of Chase and Renee Green of Ty Ty. Also surviving Mr. Pilkinton are his brothers-in-law, Nick Bennet and his wife Nancy of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Ray Bennet and his wife Marolynn of Deer Lodge, Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Milva and her husband Roy Knight of Waycross; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia for the loving care they have given Robert over the past years. Appreciation also goes to Tift Regional Medical Center, Tift Regional Dialysis Center for their care, Hope EMS, Hospice of Tift Area and Amedisys Hope Health Care.
