Eldon Grant Petersen

DAYTON- Eldon Grant Petersen, age 80, passed away on January 11, 2021 with his wife and daughters at his side in his home after a long battle with cancer.

Eldon was born in Sanford, Maine on April 8, 1940 to Everett and Olive (Grant) Petersen.

After graduating from Sanford High School, Eldon served in the Army from 1959-1962. He was stationed at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.

After his duty, Eldon returned to Maine and began a 45-year career with the telephone company (which bore many names through the years) as Toll Test man.

Eldon, like his brother, Wayne Petersen, often bore the nickname “Pete.” Both Petes took up skiing in their teens. As an adult, his love for skiing brought him to the Down East Ski Club where he met his wife, Barbara J. Elwell.

Eldon also loved boating, spending much time at the family’s camp on Square Pond in Acton.

Eldon was active at Bar Mills Community Church, serving as treasurer, financial administrator and deacon through the years.

He is predeceased by his brother Wayne “Pete” Petersen who passed in 2012.

Eldon is survived by his wife, Barbara (Elwell) Petersen, and his daughters, Susan and her husband Aric Lucas, and Meg and her husband Bob Reeder.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 2PM at the Bar Mills Community Church at 13 Hermit Thrush Drive in Buxton, Maine. Visiting hours will begin at 1PM. Please be mindful of COVID restrictions and mask wearing.
