Maria I. (Couto) Sousa, 78, of New Bedford died January 9, 2021 unexpectedly at Carney Hospital.
She was the wife of Antonio A. Sousa.
Born in Ribeira Quente, Sao Miguel, Azores, daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (DosAnjos Cruz) Couto, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was formerly employed by Cornell-Dubilier and Aerovox before retiring from Joseph Abboud.
She enjoyed singing and listening to the radio.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Kevin Sousa of New Bedford; a daughter, Diane Sousa and her fiancé Paul Correia of New Bedford; a brother, Antonio Couto of New Bedford; a sister, Dolores Maria Cruz Couto of Sao Miguel, Azores; and many nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID-19 , her Funeral Mass and burial will be private. Arrrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford will be private.
