Obituary

April 5, 1925 – December 6, 2020

Irene J. (Kamendulis) Hajko, at the age of 95, passed peacefully from this world on Sunday, December 6, 2020.

Mrs. Hajko was a longtime resident of Wellesley, Massachusetts until she retired to the Linden Ponds community in Hingham, MA. Anyone who met Irene saw a kind, refined, and elegant woman. Those who knew her well enjoyed her delightful, irreverent sense of humor and fantastic stories. Irene was unfailing in her belief in the dignity of and respect due all people. She also had a great love of animals, especially her rescued cats.

For nearly 40 years, Irene was employed by Allmerica Financial (formerly State Mutual Life Insurance), many of those years as the agency office manager. During that same time, she also worked for Jordan Marsh/Macy’s. Irene celebrated the advancement of women. She was proud that both of her daughters were college graduates, and had hoped to see a woman as President of the US. She was a woman of great curiosity. She loved to keep current, and as an avid reader of Popular Science she thrilled at new discoveries and technologies. She delighted in being able to order her groceries on her iPad.

Irene loved the town of Wellesley and living on Brook Street, where she and her daughter Candace loved to garden and care for her much-admired yard.

Mrs Hajko was preceded in death by her devoted daughters Candace and Kathryn, and by her husband Henry. Private services were held in December. Donations in her memory may be made to MSPCA-Angell or to the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
