Robert Sidney Ross, 79, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Saturday, January 9, 2021, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Irwin County, Georgia, with the Rev. Dewain Joiner and the Rev. Keithen Tucker officiating.
Mr. Ross was born September 14, 1941, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late Walter Eugene & Mary Ethel Tucker Ross. He was a 1959 graduate of Irwin County High School and went on to complete an accounting correspondence course with the International Accountants Society. He was elected to the Board of Directors of The Bank of Fitzgerald, currently known as Colony Bank, in 1978 for his excellent business experience and leadership. For over 50 years, Sidney was engaged in the heavy construction, asphalt paving, and the ready-mix concrete industries. He served as President of W.E. Ross & Sons, Inc., Ross Concrete, Inc., Ross of Georgia, Inc., and KVS Farms. During his time as President of W.E. Ross & Sons and Ross of Georgia, the companies received numerous paving awards from the State of Georgia. In 2009, he was elected and served on the Georgia Department of Transportation Board.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Cindy Kitchens Ross of Ocilla; sons: Jonathan Ross of Tifton and Sid Ross, Jr. of Tifton; daughters: Dawn Latham of Chatsworth, Allison Ross of Fitzgerald, and Meaghan Tucker of Atlanta; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers: Kenneth Ross of Ocilla and Vance & Kathy Ross of Fitzgerald; and a sister, Willann Brunson of Albany. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Traci Michelle Ross.
