Louise Payne of Columbus, formerly of Tifton, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Columbus Specialty Hospital in Columbus. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 17, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Pines in Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus with Striffler-Hamby Mortuary on Macon Road in Columbus in charge of arrangements there. Rev. Jerry Speer will officiate. Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 17, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. at Oakridge Cemetery. Dr. W. Ches Smith, III will officiate in Tifton.
Mrs. Payne was born on March 24, 1927 in Sylacauga, Alabama and was the daughter of Ira Edward Smith and Nina Jean Johnson Smith, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene D. Payne and a son, Jerry Wayne Payne. She moved to Columbus from Tifton 11 years ago and was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Columbus and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mrs. Payne is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Linda and Gordon Borkat of Columbus; one son, Terry Eugene Payne of Cairo; two sisters, Lurline Demedicis of Leeds, Alabama and Faye Bullard of Weogufka, Alabama; one brother, Hershel Smith of Sylacauga, Alabama; five grandchildren, Michael Jay Borkat, Daniel Bryan Borkat, Jarrod Eugene Borkat, Adam Alon Borkat and Thomas Payne; and four great grandchildren, Michael Christopher Borkat, Brandon Andrew Borkat, Bailey Katherine Borkat and Jacob Tyler Borkat.
