Obituary

Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, Medford, MA: Peter Lennox Brady died at home in his 93rd year of natural causes surrounded by his family. A proud fourth generation Medfordian, Mr. Brady was the son of the late Benedict F. and Eleanor (Lennox) Brady of Medford.

Mr. Brady was the beloved husband of 67 years of Marie (O'Connell) Brady of Medford, Naples, FL, and formerly Pocasset, MA. He was the father of Patricia Doherty (Joseph), Marie Dixon (Michael), Elizabeth Barber (the late Donald), Peter Brady, Jr., (Stephanie) and Eleanor O'Leary (Chip), all of Medford, Sheila Marcelonis (Brian) of Westwood and Phyllis Tansey (Neil) of Nashua, NH. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his brothers: Ned, Ben (Jean), George (Barbara), and Bill (Dottie) several cousins, including Janet Lennox Granara. Mr. Brady is survived by his in-laws, Philip (Jean) O'Connell, Ann Clare (late James) Kenneally, Gertrude (late Gigi) Boudreau, William (late Una) O'Connell and predeceased by John (late Inez) O'Connell.

Mr. Brady graduated from Medford High School in 1948 where he played football and hockey. He graduated from Bentley School of Accounting, 1950, Northeastern University, 1957, and he received an ED.M from Boston State College in 1963. He served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954. After the Air Force, Mr. Brady worked as an accountant for Boston Edison leaving in 1959 to teach and coach at Medford High School. After many years in the classroom, he went on to work as a Guidance Counselor until his retirement.

A lifelong hockey enthusiast, Mr. Brady spent many happy years on the ice, as a goalie both for Medford High School and for the Boston Olympics, at the Boston Arena and the Boston Garden, and later behind the bench as Coach for Medford Junior High School, 1957-1960, Medford High School, 1960-1969, and Babson College, 1969-1970. He also coached golf at Babson College for six years, bringing the team to a second-place finish at the 1971 NCAA golf championship. He remained a mentor and friend to many of his former players.

Mr. Brady was a college and high school hockey, football and lacrosse official for over 30 years. He was the past President and Director of the Eastern Association Intercollegiate Football Officials, past Director of the New England Football Officials Association, past Director of the Eastern MA Ice Hockey Officials Association, (NIHOA), where he was an Honorary Member, and was a member of the New England Lacrosse Officials Association. In 1999, Mr. Brady was the recipient of the MA State Hockey Coaches Association Referee Award for Outstanding Service and Dedication. For many decades he was an active member of the Gridiron Club of Boston.

Visiting hours were held at the Beals-Geake Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave, Medford. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at St. Joseph Church, Medford. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery, West Medford.
