Phyllis E. Wells, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away peacefully, January 6, 2021, at Lahey Hospital in Burlington. She was 96. Phyllis was the loving wife of the late Edward P. Wells. Born in Jamaica Plain, she was one of five children of the late Ernesto and Maria (Venti) Filippone.
Phyllis (Filomena) went with a friend to a dance in Boston. There, she met and subsequently married her beloved husband Edward Wells. They had been married for 65 years, were very happy and loved each other. Edward said Phyllis was the best and "she saved him", we think it was mutual.
Phyllis was dedicated to her family; Edward never opened his dresser drawers, the refrigerator or used the stove. She took care of all of that. She was totally devoted to her husband and her children. Later her focus expanded to her daughter in law, son in law and her five grandchildren. She was incredibly generous with her time. She always said yes when we needed her assistance. She was extremely generous and it always came when we needed it the most.
Phyllis is survived by her children; Ernie Wells and his wife Carolyn of Woburn, Elizabeth Wells Gianino and her husband Gary Gianino of Burlington. She was the loving grandmother of Brittany E. Abate, Meredith A. Masse, Gary E. Gianino, Joseph M. Gianino, and Catherine W. Gilpin. Loving great grandmother of Charlie E. Abate and Lucca M. Gianino. Sister of Joseph Filippone of Westwood, Gilda Filippone of Jamaica Plain, Connie Alduino of Jamaica Plain, and the late Mary Filippone.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral Mass that will be celebrated in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn, Saturday, January 9, at 10:00 AM. Services will conclude with the burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. All attending must wear a face covering and adhere to social distancing protocols. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Phyllis’ memory to The James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn, Charles Gardner Lane, Woburn, MA 01801.
