Obituary

Rita C. (Byrne) Drumm, 91, of Wrentham (formerly of Great Barrington, MA), passed away peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Donald F. Drumm.

Born in Pittsfield, MA on December 1, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Mary G. (Burns) Byrne. She was a 1948 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She trained as an x-ray technician at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and worked at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, first as an x-ray technician and later as a phlebotomist until her retirement.

She was an avid card player and reader, loved music, and dancing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, a nice country drive, and a good ice cream sundae.

She is survived by her six children, Stephen Drumm and wife Sally of Parkton, MD; Kathleen Williams and husband Kent of Andover, CT; James Drumm and wife Tina of Plano, TX; Diane DeFrank and husband Christopher of Wrentham; Veronica Morais and husband Manny of Upton and Patricia Mead and partner Paul Diamond of Halifax.

She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, her sister Kathryn Connors of Pittsfield and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sisters Elizabeth Giovanetti, Mary Maloy, Joan Heaton, and her brother John Byrne.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Mass on Saturday, January 9 at St. Mary’s Church in Wrentham at 11:00 a.m. or by live stream through the Plainville-Wrentham Catholic YouTube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7udZhwp1DJ4N8aBtl3JvEg.

Burial will take place on Monday, January 11 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 90 Stockbridge Road, Great Barrington, MA.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 8 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main Street, Franklin, MA (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com). Please follow all COVID-19 requirements including face masks and social distancing.
