Obituary

Elaine Angelina Ciraulo Halter

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Elaine Angelina
Ciraulo Halter. She was born in San Jose, California on April 16, 1938 and departed this world
on January 4, 2021 at the age of 82.

She spent her early years working at the canneries in San Jose along side many other relatives
at the Pruneyard and Del Monte; far prior to this area becoming Silicon Valley. She was
fortunate to grow up with a large Italian family who remained close their entire lives. Elaine
met the love of her life, Ron Halter from Canton Ohio, while he was stationed in Alameda
serving in the Navy. They married on July 15, 1956 but later divorced in 1975. They parented
three children together and she was so proud of all of them as family meant the world to her.
In 1969, they moved to Concord, California so that Ron could pursue a career in data processing
in Oakland California for Carnation Dairy. In 1982 she moved back to San Jose to be close to all
her family members. After her oldest son, Randy Halter passed away in 2003 she decided to
retire from her career as a legal secretary for Farmers Insurance and move to Ventura California
where her younger son, Doug Halter and his husband, Randy Encinas had established a
successful career in retail and landscaping and had become very involved in a community that
they loved. Every morning, Elaine would comment on how beautiful Ventura was and how it
was like waking up in heaven and wondered why she didn’t make the move sooner. Two years
ago, her daughter, Cindy Spies and husband Gordon joined them and set up their dream home
on the beautiful Ventura coast.
Elaine is survived by her sister Sharon Stott Ciraulo of Santa Cruz, brother and sister in law
Anthony and Margaret Ciraulo of Saratoga, her youngest son Doug Halter and husband Randy
Encinas of Ventura, daughter and son in law Cindy and Gordon Spies of Oxnard, two
grandchildren, Jacey Spies of Humbolt and Jameson Spies of Ventura. In addition, Elaine has
many relatives of which numbers have grown too large to name each one as her Italian family
flourished amoungst the opportunities provided by our diverse and blessed state of California.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Salvatore and Angelina Ciraulo, her brother Jasper
Ciraulo, son Randy Halter and many aunts, uncles and cousins that also enriched her life and
made it so remarkable.

Elaine was loved by so many and her gentle soul is reflected to this day in her family. Due to
COVID restrictions a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In honor of Elaine
please donate to any one of the charities in Ventura such as Rubicon, Ventura Botanical
Gardens, Ventura Music Festival or any other good cause that Elaine was so proud that her
family make a priority to support. A life well lived and a family who’s love and devotion is
eternal. Til we meet again.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Saturday January 30, 2021 in Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 3175 Telegraph Road Ventua.
