Obituary

CHICOPEE – Norman R. “Sam/Red” Landry, 83, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in his childhood home in Chicopee on October 5, 1937, a beloved son of the late Joseph W. and Yvonne M. (Gagne) Landry. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee Trade High, and was a liflong resident of the city. He served his country in the United States Army and attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. He was last employed as a heavy equipment operator for the former Lawler Construction Company in South Hadley. He loved stock-car racing and was active with the sport as a vehicle inspector at Monadnock Raceway in Winchester, NH and also raced at the former Riverside Raceway in Agawam. He was a basketball coach for AJACS in Chicopee. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Jeannine M. (Deshaies) Landry. They were married at Precious Blood Church in Holyoke on November 11, 1961 and were blessed with over 59 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving daughter, Sandra M. Maroney and her husband, Keith, and his loving son Kevin D. Landry, all of Chicopee; his two cherished grandchildren, Erin Maroney and her companion, Colby Caulmare, and Blaize Landry and his companion, Hannah Conroy; his dear sister, Shirley Darsch of Chicopee; his two dear brothers-in-law, Paul Deshaies and his wife, Millie, of Lancaster, OH, and Ronald Deshaies and his wife, Agnes, of Easthampton; his three dear sisters-in-law, Doris Bushey of Holyoke, MaryAnn Aubuchon and her husband, Gerald, of Chicopee, and Claudette Deshaies of South Hadley; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three dear brothers-in-law, Lawrence Deshaies and his wife, Jean, Norman Deshaies, and Raymond Deshaies and his wife, Helen. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
