Obituary

Calva Ann Gill McDaniel of Enigma passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. McDaniel was born September 6, 1939 in Tifton, Georgia, to her late beloved parents, Hubert H. "Doc" and Mary Moore Gill. She graduated Tift County High School and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Georgia Southern University, and the University of Georgia, where she obtained her Masters Degree in Education.

“Calva Ann” or “Miss Gill”, as she was known to students before being married to her late husband, Edward Lee “Mac” McDaniel, taught school in Berrien County for numerous years and later worked as a Media Specialist, promoting love of reading and books to students. In her career as an educator for 40 plus years, she taught sometimes three generations of students in a family. Never having children of her own, she touched the lives of many children with her kindness and patience as a teacher. She could remember names of all her students, even from her first class that she taught at 21 years of age. All students called her their favorite teacher, who read them stories in class.

She had a love for socializing with friends, dancing the jitterbug, boiled peanuts, and flashy jewelry. She was a loyal friend and had close friendships with people from grade school and college for over 60 years.

She loved her family very much, including big sister, the late Ann Gill Stauder and Joe Stauder, little brother, the late Milford M. "Buddy" Gill of Enigma, and surviving baby sister, Glenda Gill Fowler and Hayward Fowler of Tifton; her nieces and nephews that she shared a close relationship: Mark Gill, Andy and Melanie Gill, all of Enigma, and Duran Fowler Owen and Rachel Owen of Tifton; three grand-nieces and one grand-nephew, Kylie Tanton, Kip and Shaun Courtoy, all of Tifton, Jordan and Ches Beard, and Jacob and Madison Gill, all of Enigma; five great grand-nephews, Jackson Courtoy, Sy Griffin, Levi Beard, Dawson Beard, and Samuel Gill.

Due to Covid, we will be having a celebration of life at a later date, thoughts, prayers, and flowers are always appreciated.

However, if you have the means to do so, making a donation to an organization such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital @ www.stjude.org; Called To Care. P. O. Box 2396, Tifton, GA 31793; or your local library, would also be something she would’ve personally appreciated.
