Elmer F. "Al" Goreczny, 94, of Douglas Street in South Boston passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021, of a sudden illness.
He was born March 12, 1926 in Oil City, PA to Polish immigrants, Joseph and Mary Gureczny.
At the age of 18, Al enlisted with the U.S. Navy and served honorably during World War II until his discharge. He then met the love of his life, Catherine (Kay) Flaherty of Boston, to whom he was married for 60 years until her passing March 25th, 2012. They are now rejoined in heaven for eternity. Al and Kay were lifelong members of Gate of Heaven Church where they were married.
Al is survived by a sister, Helen Czlonka of Oil City, a brother, Julius of San Diego, CA and numerous nieces and nephews as well as a special friend and assistant, Jacqueline Lavery.
He is also preceded in death by his sister Bernice and brothers, Thadeus and Jerome.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions the Funeral Mass will be private. The funeral will be livestreamed at Gate of Heaven Parish on Thursday, January 7th at 11 AM.
