Obituary

Theodore Chin, a resident of Somerville and formerly of Charlestown, passed away on Wednesday December 30, 2020 at the South Cove Manor Quincy Point Nursing Home after a short illness. He was 81 years old.

Ted was born in Charlestown to the late Edwin and Mary Chin. He graduated from Boston Latin School and attended Harvard College. He worked for many years in the computer and information systems field for Sylvania's Applied Research Laboratory. He later continued his career at CRICO (Consolidated Risk Insurance Company) and Harvard Management Company.

Ted was the beloved husband of Jean MarTang Chin with whom he enjoyed 53 years of marriage. He is survived by his sisters Helen, May, and Eleanor and his brothers Thomas, David, Joseph, Francis, and Philip. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Ted enjoyed traveling with Jean and took many excursion bus trips visiting historic sites in the United States and Canada. Ted and Jean also made vacation trips with friends to Disney World, Canada, and Arcadia. A highlight of his trips was a family roots trip to his parents’ birth villages in China and other major tourist locations throughout China in which he was accompanied by his siblings, nieces, and nephews.

Jean and the family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all his doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston and South Cove Manor Quincy Point.

Burial at Forest Hills Cemetery at which Rev Jürgen Liias will conduct a private service for family only. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no public services at this time. A remembrance celebration for Ted will be held sometime in the summer or fall.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Theodore’s name may be made to South Cove Manor Quincy Point, 288 Washington St, Quincy MA 02169.
