Jeffrey Hasenbein
4/10/70 – 12/30/2020

As we fondly remember Jeff, there is an endless number of great things that can be written about him.

Jeff was a union carpenter who took immense pride in his carpentry profession and for being a member of the Boston Carpenter’s Union Local 328 (The Brotherhood), where he eventually became a shop steward. He was smart, trustworthy, and dedicated, and always fought hard for the benefit and good of his union brothers. He was an excellent carpenter whose work was meticulous. Jeff was proud to have been a part of large construction projects such as the Zakim Bridge, Assembly Row and his most recent endeavor - the construction of Belmont High School.

Jeff loved his family tremendously. He never missed a birthday party or holiday celebration. Jeff was a devil (not an evil one!) and in his younger days, raised hell with his “triplet” cousin Mike, and messed with family friends with his brother Wayne. He loved being a twin with Jenn, with whom he could talk without saying a word, and always made his sister Sam laugh. He is remembered by Dee Dee as being silly and sweet with a big, kind heart. He loved to joke and listen to “the oldies” with Aunty, and Bobby always had his back when he caused a ruckus when they went out. Jeff had his father’s temperament and patience. It was because of his father Wayne that he became interested in carpentry at a young age. He was always his mother Linda’s favorite, for whom he loved dearly and was very committed, and he took great care of her. Jeff was a devoted and proud uncle and godfather who loved goofing off with his nieces and nephews. He was also devoted to his wife’s parents, and they felt so blessed to have such a wonderful son-in-law. He was truly a great son, brother, husband, cousin, uncle and son-in-law!

One of Jeff’s greatest achievements was becoming sober and he had celebrated his 15th anniversary of sobriety this past October. He was very grateful for the blessing of sobriety and he never took one day for granted. Jeff had joined AA in 2005 where he spoke at meetings and had been a group leader. Jeff had often said that the last 15 years have been a gift. Jeff was religious and his spirituality was a large part of his life and well-being. AA tied in with his faith and it was a very important part in that chapter of his life. His accomplishment of sobriety was a story everyone liked to hear.

Jeff met his love and wonderful wife Carole in early 2013 and they were married August 1, 2020. They were truly happy and committed to each other. They also had wonderful friends together. Carole and Jeff enjoyed going to concerts, eating out at restaurants, and traveling to their second home in Maine. Their love for Aruba took them every year to this paradise, where many friendships began and continued throughout the years.

Jeff had so many friends. To know him was to love him. Everywhere Jeff went you would hear car horns blowing or people shouting his name. He was a unique and wonderful man who truly enjoyed people and touched people’s hearts on a very deep level. Jeff was loyal, trustworthy, and caring. Every one of his close friends has a special story about Jeff (Froy). He had a very special place in his heart for Rob and the “MP Dogs” - his nearest and dearest friends.

Jeff was incredibly brave in his fight against colorectal cancer. He never wavered in his decision to give it all he had. He protected everyone around him by reassuring them that he was going to “get at it” and he was always positive. Jeff’s quick wit and honest opinions were appreciated by his nurses and doctors, and he always brought a smile to their faces. With the tremendous love and support from his wife and family, we fought this battle together as a family. Family from near and far, along with his many friends, prayed, supported, and rallied for his recovery. The Hasenbein family would like to thank everyone for the love, prayers, and support throughout his life and beyond.

Jeff loved life and he sets an example that no matter how difficult things can become, there is incredible hope and strength in the human spirit. Everyone would agree that having had Jeff in their lives, even for a short time, was truly a blessing, and he will be so sorely missed and forever loved.
