Obituary

Kathleen A. (Blanchard) Sammataro, age 77, passed away peacefully in her sleep due to combination of COVID and Dementia complications on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020 at Elaine Center in Hadley. Kathleen was born in Springfield MA to the late William and Bertha (Wolas) Blanchard. After graduating business school, she worked for Breck Shampoo Co., as a secretary and hair model. She held numerous jobs for the city of Chicopee and retired from the Chicopee District Court Probation as Office Manager for the Probation Department. One of her most favorite pastime was first and foremost just ask anyone, was taking rides through Quabbin, going through the old neighborhoods in Chicopee where she grew up. She was an avid walker who always stayed fit. She enjoyed going to the beaches of Misquamicutt, RI and Wildwood Crest, NJ. She never had a bad bone in her body and would only try to see the good in everyone. She was the greatest and most loving mom anyone could ask for and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughters, Michele Sammataro of Chicopee, with whom she lived with prior to the Elaine Center for the last 16 years due to a brain aneurysm, Suzanne Leone Federal Agent who resides in Delray Beach, FL and a son David and his wife Ashleigh who reside in VT. She will be dearly missed by friend and ex-husband, David (Chooch) and his partner Chris, brother, Al Blanchard and his wife Kathy, her 3 grandkids, Leonard Giannetti, Jacob and Julia, niece Kati, nephew Danny and special Godson, Michael Blanchard. She also leaves her dear friend Liz Aberdale (Andrews) of Wellfleet, MA. She is predeceased by her brother William Blanchard. The Grise Funeral Home is entrusted with Kathleen’s care. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation or Compassus Hospice.
