Obituary

LOWELL Rita Maria Pereira (Borges) Borges, 75 of Lowell, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Westford House Nursing Home with her family by her side. She was the widow of the late Fernando F. ‘Gil’ Borges with whom she shared 38 years of marriage before he passed away in 2012.

She was born on August 7, 1945 in Terceira, Azores, Portugal, where she was raised and began her own family before relocating to the United States, settling in Lowell in 1977. Over the years in Lowell, she worked for various factories for many years, however raising her family was her greatest devotion.

Rita was a communicant of St. Anthony Church. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family, especially cooking for her family. Rita also loved animals, she had a soft spot in her heart for animals. She enjoyed the simple things in life, was a fighter, and had a heart of gold.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra de Sousa and her husband, Jammy of Lowell, and Lisa Borges and her fiancé, Chad Hapshe of Lowell; and her grandson, Andrew de Sousa of Lowell. She is also survived by her siblings, Marcolino Borges and his wife Gloria of Florida, Noemia Borges wife of the late Venancio Borges of Lowell, and Conceicao Neves and her husband Manuel of Dracut; and her nieces and nephews.

Rita was welcomed into heaven by her parents, the late Luis F. Borges and the late Julieta P. (Pereira) Borges; and her brother, the late Venancio Borges; and her nephews, the late Venancio Borges Jr. and the late Luis Borges.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita’s memory may be made to: Lowell General Cancer Center, Development Office, 295 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854 or to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org.

WHILE FOLLOWING SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES & STATE REGULATIONS AND WEARING A MASK, ALL ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 30, 2020 FROM 4-6 P.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL, 978-458-6816. DUE TO COVID-19 REGULATIONS, HER FUNERAL MASS AT ST. ANTHONY CHURCH AND BURIAL AT ST. MARY CEMETERY WILL TAKE PLACE PRIVATELY.
