Obituary

John J. Force, 92, of Abington, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on December 24th at the South Shore Hospital After a period of failing health. He was the husband the late Jean M. (Powers) Force and the late Margaret (Laverty) Parker-Force.

He was born in Boston, son of the late Edward and Mary (Satchell) Force, and received his high school diploma from the Roxbury Memorial High School.

John served his country in the United States Army, World War II, from 1945-1947.He then became a Boston firefighter in 1955 and retired in 1992, 37 years later as a Deputy Chief. He loved fighting the “Red Devil” as he called it. As a Firefighter he was the first in and the last out.

He loved to golf and after he retired, every fall he’d team up with his buddies, mostly fellow Firefighters and travel to Myrtle Beach. John also enjoyed all sports, the Patriots and Red Sox.

John will be remembered for a litany of attributes, he left behind a great legacy.

He is survived by his sons Kevin Force and his wife Paula, John Force and his wife Trisha all of Abington, his step-son Richard Parker of Hanson, his sister Martha Leary of Holbrook, his grandchildren, Christopher and Andrew Force, his great grandchild, Logan Martin-Force, and the late Ryan Force. He was also the step father of the late Ronald Parker, brother of the late Edward and Paul Satchell and Mildred Snell: also, many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are welcome to attend his visitation on Wednesday December 30th form 4:00-7:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. All other services are private.
