Obituary

William S. “Gunner” Gonet, age 92, was called safely home on Dec. 22, 2020 through the skilled and tender care of the Willimansett Center West Nursing Home. He was born on Sept. 26, 1928 in Chicopee, a son of the late Wojciech and Stephania (Lacka) Gonet, originally of Austria. Gunner proudly served as a United States Marine and was Korean War Era Veteran from 1948 - 1951. He was retired from Package Machinery in West Springfield. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 452, a 20-year member of the Elks Post 1849 and a 10-year member of the Moose Family Lodge #1849. He is predeceased by his wife Lucille (Mackler) Gonet; his 2 brothers Joseph A. Gonet and Edward Gonet; 6 sisters, Helen Pietrusiak, Jane Lempart, Dorothy “Kay” Lord, Sonia Caputo, Bertha Gonet and Angela Sharon. He is also predeceased by Rachel Peloquin, his companion of 10 years. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Larry Mackler and his wife Miriam, of Longmeadow; niece Molly Mackler and nephew Dr. Harrison Mackler and also by his close friends and caregivers, Diane Daigle and Donald Goulette of Chicopee. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wed, Dec. 30, 2020 at 10:00 AM in St Stanislaus Basilica followed by prayers and Military Honors in St Stanislaus Cemetery Chapel.
