Obituary

CORNISH- Gudrun E. H. Howard, (Gundy), 77 years old, of 99 Pavilion Rd Cornish Maine, formally of 1319 Cape Rd Limington Maine. She was known to most as “Omi”, went to her heavenly home on December 21, 2020.
Gundy was born on November 27, 1943 to Reinhart “Erich” and Hildegard Nier in Stuttgart, Germany.
Gundy was a beautician and studied with Lorell Institute of Hair. In 1961, she met Sgt. Raymond Howard of the US Army. She was not impressed with Raymond at the time, but little did she know that she met the love of her life. They wed not once but twice. Once on June 29, 1962 in a German Church and again on July 7, 1962 in an American Church.
Gundy and Raymond spent a life in the military that they both enjoyed. They traveled the world and were stationed in many different states, always holding true to the US Army way, but decided to retire in Raymond’s home state of Maine.
On October 16th, 1964 they welcomed Diane Hildegard Howard to this world. And she was a fierce, loving little baby. Sadly, she was called home in January of 1965 to her heavenly home. Gudrun and Raymond always kept her life alive and Diana was always in their thoughts and minds.
In 1967 Gudrun became a US Citizen. She was so proud of this country, and what it stood for.
Gundy loved her family. She was especially proud of the three daughters her and Raymond raised. Dina, so thoughtful and willing to help anyone in need. Renee, so loving of her family and willing to do whatever she needed to do. And, Mindy, her baby that was just like her… So full of spunk and willing to stand for her family no matter what.
Gundy, loved knitting and crocheting. But most of all she loved her family. She was a force in the Limington Lions Club, holding the president title. She was a Librarian at the HB Emery School, she loved karaoke and listening to her daughter Renee sing. Gundy was a past SR Vice president of the VFW AUX 6859 Portland Maine. She loved kids, and worked in Day cares for many years. She loved fund raising for her kids, especially fund raising for kids school trips, German dinners for fundraisers with her husband and children. She did sausage fundraisers with the Sausage tent that her and Raymond created. She loved Sunday German meals at her home with her daughters beside her to watching soccer games played by her grandson. She also enjoyed cheerleading competitions that her granddaughter was in, she never missed a one. She loved everyone in her family immensely. Her presence will be forever missed.
Gudrun is predeceased by her parents Erich and Hildegard Nier. She is also predeceased by her beautiful daughter Diana Hildegard Howard.
Surviving are her husband of 58 and half loving years Sgt. Raymond Howard currently residing in Springbrook Facility, Westbrook Maine; Her Brother Erich Nier of Munich Germany; Her beautiful daughters, Dina Call and husband Mark Call of Cornish Maine, Renee Roy and her husband Jason Roy of Cornish Maine, and Melinda Singleton and her husband Tharail Singleton of Cornish; Four light of her life grandchildren, Brandon Harmon and his fiancé Stephanie McDonough of Portland Maine, Jensyn Harmon and fiancé Owen Sprague of Cornish, Chloe Roy and Logan Roy of Cornish; Two Beautiful great grandchildren, Bronson Harmon and Bentleigh Harmon, in which Omi adored; Her four sister in laws, Dolores Harmon, Cheryl Howard, Elaine DeWitt and Gail DiBiase.
