Obituary

CHICOPEE – Jeanne (Harnois) Berneche, 90, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born at home on Mary Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on August 26, 1930, a beloved daughter of the late George H. and Cora M. (Croteau) Harnois. She was raised in Aldenville and was a lifelong resident of the city. During her leisure time, she enjoyed reading and traveling. Jeanne and her late husband, Leonard, were snow-birds and enjoyed many years together at their winter residence in Boca Raton. They were also members of the Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow. Most of all, she was a loving woman who enjoyed being a homemaker to her family. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a lifelong communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate, Leonard N. Berneche who was Called Home on November 11, 2013. They were married on July 9, 1949 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 64 years of happiness together. She was also predeceased by her beloved infant daughter, Lizanne Berneche who was Called Home on June 5, 1956; her loving grandson, Tyler J. Berneche who was Called Home on November 9, 1991; her loving daughter-in-law, Connie F. (Bullock) Berneche who was Called Home on January 28, 2017; her dear brother, George M. Harnois and his wife, Noella; and her dear sister, Georgette Friend and her husband, Clarence “Rufe” Friend. She leaves her five loving children, Lenore M. Salacinski and her husband, Edward, of Chicopee, Leon N. Berneche and his wife, Regina, of Belchertown, Lloyd N. Berneche and his wife, Vivian, of Granby, Laurel A. Lafleur and her husband, Robert, of Belchertown and Lance N. Berneche and his fiancée, Lisa Verville, of Agawam; her ten cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Dr. Amanda Salacinski, PhD, Marisa Berneche and her wife, Lynn, Shaina Garvin and her husband, James, Neal Berneche and his wife, Rileigh, Adam Lafleur and his wife, Jenn, Andrew Lafleur and his wife, Angie, Lizanne McCabe and her husband, Kevin, Evan Berneche and his wife, Carly, Eliza Berneche and Austin Berneche and his wife, Bree; her ten cherished great-grandchildren, Lila and Chloe Salacinski, Tyler and Beatrice Berneche, Tessa and Carter Lafleur, Charlie and Bennett McCabe and Cooper and Romy Berneche; her two dear sisters, Lucille Pray and her husband, Harry, and Elaine Scott, all of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended members of the Berneche and Harnois families. Her family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers, especially Beacon Hospice, for their care and loving compassion that they provided to Jeanne during her Long Journey Home from Alzheimer’s. Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the Mass. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
