Obituary


Paul L. Barrette, 73, of North Providence passed away on Tuesday, December 15th at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Henry and Dorothy Barrette, He was the beloved husband of Jane K. (Lavery) Barrette for 50 years.

Besides his loving wife, Jane, Paul is survived by five children: Paul (Sandra), Derek (Jerlina), Kathleen Johnson (Christopher), Matthew, and Elizabeth; and seven grandchildren: Arielle, Thomas, Jayna, Dylan, Jehlivia, Halle, and Bella. He is also survived by his siblings William, John, Janet de Lisle, Celine Goodson, and Jo Anne Dillon. He was preceded in death by his siblings Marian and Thomas. Paul is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Paul worked at the RI Welding & Fabricating Company as a foreman, fabricator, and welder for well over 50 years. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star for his service.

Paul especially enjoyed spending time with his family, often staying at the beach together in the summer. Paul was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing with his family and friends, especially at Jamestown and Louisquissett. He also enjoyed watching Boston sports and was a proud fixture on the sideline of sporting events of his children and grandchildren and in the audience of the concerts and plays of his grandchildren.

A private burial will take place at St Ann Cemetery, Cranston. A memorial Mass at St Augustine Church, Providence, will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Paul’s memory to the RI Community Food Bank, https://rifoodbank.org
