Obituary

David W. Lewis, Jr, 77, passed away on Sunday, December 13th after a long illness, surrounded by loving friends and caretakers.

David was predeceased by his parents David Whitney Lewis and Rebecca Perry Lewis, and his brother, William Lincoln Lewis. He is survived by his sister Joan Perry Lewis of Lewes, Delaware.

David was a lifelong resident of Dover. He attended Charles River School, Milton Academy and Harvard College, before graduating from Georgetown Law School.

After a stint in the Marine Reserves, David practiced law for his entire career, most recently at Nutter, McClennan and Fish. His true passions were riding and hunting through the woods and fields of Dover and Sherborn with his friends.

He was Master of the Norfolk Hunt Club and devoted much of his life to preserving open fields and woods. For many years, he was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dover Land Conservation Trust – permanently protecting land in Dover from development.

Forced to give up riding and other athletic pursuits because of a spinal condition, he focused his considerable talents on gardening and landscaping, turning his Dover property into a showplace.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Gifts in David’s memory should be sent to the
Dover Land Conservation Trust, P.O. Box 562, Dover, MA 02030.
